Tournament Director

The Tournament Director will oversea all aspect of the tournament(s). 

The Tournament Director will be responsible for the recruitment and retention of participating teams in SBD Tournaments events.  The Tournament Director will communicate with coaches, managers, and administrators to recruit and place teams in the proper tournaments.  The Tournament Director will develop tournament bracketing and schedules for events as well as will work with the Marketing Department to assist in the development of a marketing plan specific to the youth soccer demographic. The Tournament Director will play an integral role in further developing the SBD Tournaments name and brand in the youth soccer market.

Qualifications

Qualifications 

  • Extensive knowledge of sports and particularly the youth soccer community and demographic in the United States
  • Superior oral and written communications skills
  • Effective organizational skills for management of multiple tasks
  • Experience in operations of sporting events, leagues, facilities, and/or professional teams

Preferred Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of products in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of basic finance practices for budget management
  • Knowledge of GotSport software application, or other applicable registration software

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to work weekends, irregular hours, and travel as needed
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Reliable transportation

This position is a full time position with a flexible work schedule.  

The candidate is encouraged to have a history of event experience or a degree in Sports Management or Event Management.

This position is a salary position with bonus opportunities.  

All event travel expenses are reimbursed or covered. 

The Role

Sales / Communication:

  • Recruit teams and clubs to attend tournaments
  • Serve as the primary contact for team officials to retain teams in out years
  • Communicate event rules and registration protocols to teams
  • Communicate schedule with Referee Assignor for field loading and scheduling
  • Attend tournaments, trade shows, and other events to interact with team officials
  • Assist Business Development Department to develop leads for new business by analyzing trends and results in the soccer industry
  • Assist in the recruitment of college coaches to attend events

Operations

  • Assist in the tournament permission to host application process
  • Set-up tournaments within GotSport, or other application software
  • Develop tournament schedules to account for team requirements, referee availability, field availability and coaching conflicts
  • On-site tournament director for various events
  • Assist Operations Department in projecting awards numbers for events
  • Assist Operations Department with development of logistics plan through integration of game schedule

Marketing

  • Develop contacts database for teams, coaches, and administrators
  • Coordinate with Marketing Department to ensure all event website information is up to date with necessary details
  • Assist Marketing Department with development of marketing materials (digital and physical implementation)
  • Assist Marketing Department in the development of event marketing plan specific to the youth soccer demographic

Administrative:

  • Assist in completing tournament sanctioning and post event reports
  • Assist in creating and updating tournament rules
  • Assist in invoicing and collection for tournament entry fees
  • Assist in the communication process for our travel agency by acting as the liaison for teams
  • Serve as the primary contact for our registration software to answer registration questions, event specific questions, and updating all event pages year to year
